Mt. Fuji

Mt. Fuji has 10 stations, we started at the 5th station around 1:00 p.m...and started climbing

 and climbing....

 and climbing

In this picture you can see our Fuji stick. At every station and mountain hut you can get a stamp.

The sunset from the mountain hut we stayed in. The Mountain hut was above the 8th station. It was by far the most expensive hotel we ever stayed in and by far the most sparse. It was sleeping bags on a wood planks next to a bunch of other Japnese hikers and rice bags for a pillow. Tom was the lucky one who got to sleep next to one of the three snorers in room. We woke up at 1:00 a.m., only to find it was too windy to keep climbing to the top. So we went to bed and woke at 4:00 a.m. and climbed to the top.

 The Crater at the Top

At the very end we had some lingering altitude sickness, sore muscles, sleep deprivation, but high spirits--we did something hard and were glad we did.

Mattie would like me to add that the next week some friends of ours were hiking Fuji and asked Mattie if she would like to go, so she hiked Fuji twice in two weeks. She did great!
